Warframe Alpha Trailer Teases Ninja Like Combat

Warframe may not accurately convey the combat and characters in which it contains.  The mental image I get of the free to play game from Digital Extremes is of some big hulking robot, but as the latest alpha trailer shows a warframe is anything but.  Can you say robotic ninjas?  There's no slow lumbering combat here, just fast paced third person action with plenty of explosions, swords, and co-op.

There's a beta planned for the game this Fall, and Digital Extremes has said they'll be announcing a more exact date soon.  Warframe will feature four player online co-op when launched on the PC.

Warframe Co-Op FAQ

Warframe Co-Op Impressions

In Warframe you take control of a Tenno, a warrior of the blade. You don one of 14 different Warframes, each with their own look and abilities. I chose the Excalibur, a frame designed for mobility and offense. Jason ended up purchasing a frame called Frost, which offered special abilities based on freezing enemies. The other frames can be crafted by finding raw materials, blue prints, and pieces over time, or they can be purchased outright with platinum.

The main focus of this recent update are a couple of new Tennos, or the titular Warframes, a new tileset/level and boss, and a new mission type. This is in addition to the new weapons, mods, and sentinel. Like I said, there's a lot going on in this update. You take the role of a master warrior called the Tenno. Skilled warriors with blade and gun, the Tenno are needed to battle the Grineer, whose vast armies are diverging across the solar system like a virus. It’s a typical power struggle story, but it adds a nice background for the purpose of your fighting.

The Quickfire Indie Bundle dumps the pay what you want model in favor of a simple price that supports both indie developers and the Special Effect charity. Several single player games make up the bulk of the bundle, including Guardians of Graxia, Septerra Core, Space Pirates and Zombies, and Dark Sector. Co-op games include Cannon Fodder 3, a tactical action game that supports four players online, and Warframe, which is a bit of a special case. Instead of getting a copy of the third person shooter, you get $10 worth of in-game credit to redeem (170 platinum). Kind of makes since seeing as how the game is free to download and all.

Warframe's Update 11: VALKYR UNLEASHED (yeah, all caps, baby!) is packed with new environments, weapons, warframes, bosses, UI improvements, gameplay tweaks and more. Topping the list is a new codex system that allows players to scan enemies and objects to glean important information. Scan more things, get more XP, unlock more things. In short, scan all the things. A new damage system has also been implemented, breaking physical hits into categories (puncture, impact, slash) to allow for varied resistances. No more spamming the attack button, you'll need to spend some more time learning each foe's weaknesses in order to take them down.
